GETTING STARTED
Not at all — most of our surfers are complete beginners. We’ll teach you everything from scratch in a fun, supportive environment.
Very likely. With the right coaching, beginner-friendly waves, and soft boards, most people are up and riding in their first lesson.
Yes — safety is our top priority. We teach in waist-deep water at beginner-friendly beaches, and all instructors are fully qualified in surf rescue and first aid.
That’s completely normal. We work with all confidence levels and tailor the experience to you. By the end of the lesson, most people surprise themselves.
Definitely. If you’re still building the basics, group lessons are a great option. Once you’re past that stage, we recommend a private lesson to help you progress faster with more focused coaching.
LESSON DETAILS
Private lessons are 2 hours, while group lessons run for 3–4 hours, including transport and coaching — with 1.5–2 hours in the water to give you plenty of time to learn.

Our surf school is in the centre of Byron Bay, just a short walk from the beach. We also offer pick-up from selected locations.
Swimwear, towel, sunscreen, and water — we take care of the rest.
For safety reasons, all group lessons use soft foam boards, which are ideal for learning. If you’d like to use your own board — or try one of our fibreglass boards — we recommend booking a private lesson so we can tailor the session to you.
No — you’re welcome to space your lessons out. While we automatically book them on consecutive days, you can request different dates when booking or contact us and we’ll organise it to suit your schedule.
Conditions change daily, so the best time depends on tides, wind, and swell. The good news — Byron Bay has great surf year-round, and we take you to the best location each day.

We’ve been operating in Byron Bay for over 16 years, with local knowledge to choose the best location each day for the best possible waves. Most importantly, our instructors genuinely care — they’re there to make sure you have a great time in the water.
We keep our groups small with a 1:7 instructor-to-student ratio (better than the standard 1:8), so you get more waves, more feedback, and more personal coaching throughout your lesson.
Our team are experienced surfers and fully qualified instructors with surf rescue and first aid training. Many of our coaches are locals who know the Byron coastline inside out, so you’re always in the right place for the conditions

Not at all. We cater to all levels and tailor coaching to your experience. Private upgrades are available for faster progression.

Check-in is from 2:00 PM, but you’re welcome to arrive earlier and explore. You can store luggage at The Surf House.
Usually on the afternoon of arrival. If you arrive late, we’ll move it to the next day in the afternoon.

We run lessons in most conditions — you’re getting wet anyway. If conditions are unsafe, we’ll reschedule or offer a refund.

Yes — especially during the summer months and holidays. We often fill up, so it’s best to book early.
