OUR SUSTAINABILITY STORY

As surfers, we spend countless hours in the water, witnessing firsthand the importance of taking sustainable actions to protect our oceans. Our deep love for the ocean and nature drives us to care for the environment and make a positive impact. We believe that every small action counts, from reducing plastic waste to supporting eco-friendly practices.

Soul Surf School is proud to be Ecotourism Certified, ensuring our Surf lessons reflect our commitment to sustainability. We are dedicated to implementing effective environmental practices in our daily operations.

Our ECO Certification guarantees that our offerings are backed by a strong dedication to sustainable tourism, providing high-quality, nature-based experiences for our guests.

How do we promote sustainability?

We offer recycling options both at our store and on the beach to encourage sustainable practices.

We use eco-friendly cleaning products for our wetsuits

We recycle wetsuits and boards for the local community.

To protect our waterways, we utilise a slurry tub that filters sand and washing soaps, preventing them from entering the stormwater drainage system.

We offer staff incentives to cycle to our work place.

We use eco made learn to surfboards

Our Commitment to Biodiversity and Indigenous Culture

We prioritise biodiversity and respect for local Indigenous culture. The local Bundjalung people lived in harmony with the environment here for over 60,000 years, relying on the land for a variety of foods and utilising natural materials for shelter and tools. We encourage locals and visitors to take a tour with Explore Byron Bay to gain a true understanding of our areas rich indigenous culture.

We ensure all activities leave no trace and respect local wildlife.

We actively report any wildlife encounters to the Marine Parks. So let us know if you spot whales, dolphins, turtles, sea birds, rays, or any other marine life during your lesson!

We maintain council and National Park regulation class sizes to minimise impacts to local flora and fauna.

We also collaborate with our partners to prioritise environmental responsibility:

We are proud to be associated with Take 3 For The Sea and encourage all visitors to responsibly dispose of their waste while enjoying our area.

We’re excited to work closely with Sustainable Surf to promote the Sea Trees initiative which supports communities and scientists who protect and regenerate coastal ecosystems which can be up to 10X more effective than rainforests at removing carbon from the air.

In our lessons and rentals, we proudly use Mick Fanning Softboards, certified as Level 1 Eco Boards by Sustainable Surf. With their Super EVA construction, you can ride the waves knowing you’re using an eco-friendly product.
